Say it ain't so!
My friend and I were coming up with ideas and he was wanting to make a new world. He believes in the idea that elves only live with elves, and whole separate cultures can develop within a stones throw of each other (all you have to do is cross the imaginary borderline). These differences aside , I feelthat giving old races new names breaks stereotypes and raises the interest in players who have to rediscover things. I gave him my list of names and he said my names suck. So please tell me what you think.
Dwarf = babarak- babas for short (they are supposed to be the woodsy nature loving barbarians in this world) or babeirs (Bay bears)- beirs for short (name of local Bball team)
Celtic-like humans= ghels Founded by Gheller who followed the sings from his god to fertile land
Egyptians = Fains- ruled by the fane or fain
Ogre = Cqoteks- supposed to be like a mayan, or incan civ
Barbarian elves= Ush'Yealin (my fav!) They were masks to inspire fear and they use special bows
I personally hate almost all the names Jordan came up with for the Wheel of Time. ?Dark Friends? Why not fiends? Friends make them sound like they gather around campfires and tell ghost stories. Except Rand, Elayne, Perrin and Matt all the characters seem to have impossible to pronounce names and would be too complicated for daily use. Most would have a nickname. Then I downloaded the books on tape and head the reader pronounce the names and I hated them even more (and deleted the audio files!). I really like the series and it gives me something to do, but I hate the names and Ray loves them?! So just tell me if you think I'm way off base like 90% of all the people who try out for american idle.
